385

The Peterbilt 385 is a Class 8 aerodynamic vocational and highway truck, produced from 1996 to around 2007. It was positioned as a more compact and versatile alternative to the 379, with improved maneuverability and aerodynamics, making it a strong performer in both vocational and regional haul roles.

The Peterbilt 385 is commonly used for:

  • Regional freight and distribution
  • Bulk commodities and tanker
  • Flatbed and construction materials
  • Logging and agricultural transport
  • Mixer, dump, and vocational body installs

With its shorter bumper-to-back-of-cab length and lighter frame, the 385 was ideal for applications that needed both durability and agility.

Cab Type

  • Cab Style: Conventional narrow-body
  • Cab Width: ~1.9 meters (75 inches)
  • Configuration options included:
    • Day cab
    • Flat top sleeper
    • Mid-roof sleeper
  • Shares cab structure with the 375, 377, 378, and 379

Aftermarket Seat Compatibility

The Peterbilt 385 uses the standard vocational bolt pattern: 4.68" x 12"

This means most aftermarket seats will bolt in directly without an adaptor.

Installation Notes

  • No adaptor needed for standard installs
  • Verify vertical clearance in flat-top sleepers or day cabs before installing taller seat models
  • Consider seat height vs. steering wheel tilt and legroom for driver ergonomics
