2005-2015
The Peterbilt 386 is a Class 8 aerodynamic conventional truck, introduced in 2006 and produced until around 2015. It served as a transitional design between the traditional styling of the 379/385 and the full aero-body 387, blending classic looks with aerodynamic efficiency.
The 386 was built for both fleet and owner-operator applications, commonly used for:
- Regional and long-haul freight
- Dry van and reefer
- Bulk commodities and tanker
- Flatbed operations
Its aerodynamic improvements over the 379/385 provided better fuel efficiency without sacrificing durability.
Cab Type
- Cab Style: Narrow-body aerodynamic conventional
- Cab Width: ~1.9 meters (75 inches)
- Available configurations:
- Day cab
- Mid-roof sleeper
- Raised-roof sleeper
- Shares cab structure with the Peterbilt 384, 385, 378, and 379
Aftermarket Seat Compatibility
The Peterbilt 386 uses the standard vocational bolt pattern: 4.68" x 12"
Most aftermarket seats bolt in directly with no adaptor required.
Installation Notes
- Adaptor plate is not needed for standard vocational seats
- In day cab models, check seat height for dash clearance
- Electrical connections (e.g., sensors or heaters) may require splicing or bypassing if replacing powered OEM seats
