1996-2007
The Peterbilt 385 is a Class 8 aerodynamic vocational and highway truck, produced from 1996 to around 2007. It was positioned as a more compact and versatile alternative to the 379, with improved maneuverability and aerodynamics, making it a strong performer in both vocational and regional haul roles.
The Peterbilt 385 is commonly used for:
- Regional freight and distribution
- Bulk commodities and tanker
- Flatbed and construction materials
- Logging and agricultural transport
- Mixer, dump, and vocational body installs
With its shorter bumper-to-back-of-cab length and lighter frame, the 385 was ideal for applications that needed both durability and agility.
Cab Type
- Cab Style: Conventional narrow-body
- Cab Width: ~1.9 meters (75 inches)
- Configuration options included:
- Day cab
- Flat top sleeper
- Mid-roof sleeper
- Shares cab structure with the 375, 377, 378, and 379
Aftermarket Seat Compatibility
The Peterbilt 385 uses the standard vocational bolt pattern: 4.68" x 12"
This means most aftermarket seats will bolt in directly without an adaptor.
Installation Notes
- No adaptor needed for standard installs
- Verify vertical clearance in flat-top sleepers or day cabs before installing taller seat models
- Consider seat height vs. steering wheel tilt and legroom for driver ergonomics
